1,730 Decares of Pastureland Brought into Production Under Selçuk University Project

As part of the Pasture Improvement and Management Project carried out in Karaman under the academic supervision of Selçuk University, 1,730 decares of pastureland have been rehabilitated and made available to support livestock production.


Speaking at the opening ceremony, Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Forestry Ahmet Gümen emphasized that the improved pastures have significantly increased forage yield.


In Burunoba village in the central district of Karaman, an opening ceremony was held for 1,730 decares of pastureland improved under the Pasture Improvement and Management Project implemented by the Provincial Directorate of Agriculture and Forestry, with academic consultancy provided by Prof. Dr. Ramazan Acar, a faculty member of the Department of Field Crops at Selçuk University’s Faculty of Agriculture.


Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Forestry Ahmet Gümen stated that Türkiye has significant potential in terms of pasture resources, saying: “As of today, our country has more than 17 million head of cattle and over 58 million small ruminants. With these figures, Türkiye ranks first among European countries in both categories. Improving and efficiently utilizing our pasture areas is of strategic importance for the sustainability of our livestock sector.”
