Konya Metropolitan Municipality continues its agricultural support efforts aimed at promoting drought-resistant, high value-added crops across the region.
Konya Metropolitan Mayor Uğur İbrahim Altay emphasized that strengthening rural and agricultural development is among the top priorities of the municipality within the framework of the “Konya Model Municipalism” approach.
Highlighting that pistachio support is one of the best examples of their efforts to diversify the region’s agricultural production, Mayor Altay said, “We are working intensively to increase productivity in Konya’s fertile lands and to raise the income of our farmers. We attach great importance to expanding the cultivation of pistachios, which stand out with their high profitability, especially in areas facing water scarcity. In this regard, our pistachio support for farmers who applied continued this year with increased capacity.”
Mayor Altay noted that the number of pistachio saplings distributed across 61 neighborhoods in 9 districts has reached 4,020 over the last two terms. He said, “With a 75 percent grant subsidy, we are supporting our farmers’ budgets. Pistachios offer a significant opportunity, especially for utilizing marginal lands. Thanks to their drought-resistant nature, we achieve highly successful results particularly in areas with microclimate advantages. Our goal is to diversify agricultural production, increase income sources for our farmers, and make rural life more sustainable. May it bring abundance.”
