The Konya Plain Project

The Konya Plain Project

The Konya Plain Project continues to play a central role in transforming the economic and social landscape of central Anatolia. As one of Türkiye’s most comprehensive regional development efforts, the project focuses on strengthening agriculture, improving water management, and fostering a closer link between industry and rural production.

At the heart of the initiative lies a long-term strategy aimed at increasing agricultural efficiency while ensuring the sustainable use of natural resources. Modern irrigation systems have replaced outdated infrastructure across the region, leading to significant water savings. Each year, hundreds of millions of tons of water are conserved, while additional agricultural land is being integrated into advanced closed irrigation systems.

The project has also contributed to notable economic expansion. Over the past two decades, the region has seen a dramatic rise in exports, alongside large-scale investments that have supported industrial growth and job creation. Organized industrial zones established within the scope of the project have provided employment opportunities for tens of thousands of people, reinforcing the region’s economic resilience.

Looking ahead, the 2024–2028 roadmap outlines a balanced development model that prioritizes efficient water use, expanded irrigation, and improved land management. Efforts to prevent groundwater depletion and enhance agricultural productivity remain key priorities. At the same time, initiatives aimed at increasing the value of agricultural production and boosting machinery exports are expected to further strengthen the region’s economic structure.

With its integrated approach, the Konya Plain Project stands out as a strategic framework designed not only to accelerate economic growth but also to support long-term social development. By aligning environmental sustainability with industrial and agricultural progress, the project continues to shape the future of central Anatolia in a comprehensive and lasting way.
