Unused Farmland in Konya Brought Back into Production Through Chickpea Cultivation

Unused agricultural land in Konya is being brought back into production through a government-backed chickpea cultivation initiative. As part of the program, technical teams have begun field inspections in areas where subsidized chickpea seeds were distributed to farmers.

Unused farmland across Konya is being returned to agricultural production through a chickpea cultivation support program implemented under Türkiye’s Agricultural Land Utilization Project (TAKE).

The initiative aims to increase crop production while making productive use of land that had remained uncultivated. Under the program, farmers received chickpea seeds to plant on previously idle agricultural land.

Field inspections have now begun in areas participating in the project. Agricultural specialists are assessing crop development, monitoring planting conditions, and checking for potential diseases and pests to support healthy yields throughout the growing season.

A total of 28,000 kilograms of chickpea seed were distributed to 83 farmers under the program. Officials stated that field monitoring activities will continue as part of efforts to strengthen agricultural production and support local farmers.

The project is expected to contribute both to sustainable agricultural development and to the more efficient use of farmland across the region.
