Konya Metropolitan Municipality continues to strengthen its environmentally friendly transportation infrastructure through investments in bicycle lanes, smart transportation systems, and micromobility solutions.
As efforts continue to promote the wider use of bicycles and micromobility vehicles in daily life across Konya, which holds the title of the 2026 European Cycling Capital, Konya Metropolitan Municipality is implementing new initiatives that prioritize safe and comfortable transportation for residents.
In collaboration with companies operating shared electric scooter services in the city, the municipality has established dedicated e-scooter parking areas at various locations, particularly in heavily used parts of the city center. The new initiative aims to address the problem of disorderly parking on sidewalks by allowing users to leave their e-scooters only in designated areas. This will help reduce the occupation of pedestrian walkways while also contributing to the city’s visual appeal.
Introduced to ensure that people with disabilities, elderly residents, families with children, and all pedestrians can use sidewalks more safely and comfortably, the project is expected to make a significant contribution to maintaining order in urban transportation. The designated parking areas will also help eliminate the visual clutter and accessibility issues caused by randomly parked e-scooters.
As part of the first phase of the project, dedicated parking zones with a total capacity of 300 e-scooters will be created at 16 locations in some of the city’s busiest areas for both pedestrian and vehicle traffic, including Kültürpark, the Intercity Bus Terminal, Kule Site, Kentplaza, and Bosna Hersek Neighborhood.
