Energy Revolution Gains Momentum in Karatay

The Sustainable Energy and Climate Action Plan prepared by Karatay Municipality was unanimously adopted during the June 2025 session of the Municipal Council and has officially entered into force.

The plan focuses primarily on environmentally friendly and innovative investments, with a particular emphasis on solar energy.

Large-scale solar power plant (SPP) installations on the rooftops of municipal service buildings, social facilities, sports complexes, and schools will be accelerated. This will enable a significant portion of these buildings’ electricity needs to be met from renewable sources, leading to a reduction in energy costs.

CLEAN ENERGY PRODUCTION TO INCREASE

Suitable lands and rooftops across Karatay will be utilized for solar power plant (SPP) projects. This will not only boost clean energy production but also transform these areas into economic assets. Through these investments, Karatay Municipality aims not only to meet its own energy consumption but also to guide and encourage residents and businesses to transition to clean energy. Surplus energy generated will be subject to offsetting in accordance with legal regulations. In this way, reducing energy bills in Karatay is also among the key objectives.

KARATAY'S SOLAR ENERGY INFRASTRUCTURE

Karatay Municipality is already achieving significant energy savings and economic benefits through its existing solar power plants.

In Tatlıcak Neighborhood, the solar power plant with a capacity of 190 kW produces an average of 300 MWh of electricity annually. The plant in Saraçoğlu Neighborhood, with a capacity of 1000 kW, generates approximately 1700 MWh of energy per year. The 300 kW solar power plant located on the roof of the public market in Kalenderhane Neighborhood produces 450 MWh annually. Similarly, the 300 kW rooftop plant on the public market in Büyüksinan Neighborhood also generates 450 MWh of energy each year.

Meanwhile, construction is ongoing at full speed for the fifth solar power plant in İsmil Neighborhood, which is being built on a 105,000-square-meter area. The facility will house a total of 13,440 panels once completed.
