Karatay’s Lavender Products Continue to Add Value to the Local Economy

Lavender-based products produced in Karatay continue to generate economic value by supporting women’s employment and turning local agricultural resources into market-ready goods.

Karatay Municipality continues its value-added production model through lavender-based products that contribute directly to the local economy. Alongside ice cream, jam, Turkish delight, soda, oil, and cologne, natural lavender soap and decorative candles remain part of the municipality’s established production line.

Carried out under the Atölye Karatay project, this production focuses on sustainability rather than short-term output. Women involved in the workshop regularly produce lavender soap and decorative candles at the Sedirler Social Facilities, supporting household incomes while strengthening local manufacturing.

The project is supported by technical training provided by Sultan Melike Bozoğlan from the Department of Agricultural Services of Konya Metropolitan Municipality, ensuring product quality and efficient production processes.

Products manufactured at Atölye Karatay are offered for sale through municipal outlets such as Karatay Thermal Holiday Village, Kafe Karatay, and Karatay Buffets, allowing locally produced goods to directly circulate within the district economy.

Hasan Kılca, Mayor of Karatay, stated that projects centered on women’s production and local resources remain a core part of the municipality’s economic approach.
