Konya Metropolitan Municipality continues to contribute to a sustainable environment by offering solutions to energy needs through environmentally friendly projects.
Uğur İbrahim Altay, Mayor of Konya Metropolitan Municipality, said that they are working meticulously with the “Konya Model of Municipal Governance” approach to address not only the city’s needs today but also those of the future.
Emphasizing that they act with a Zero Waste goal in waste management and attach great importance to energy recovery projects, Uğur İbrahim Altay said, “As part of our recycling efforts, in 2025 we collected 8,000 kilograms of waste batteries and 7,000 liters of waste oil.”
Uğur İbrahim Altay emphasized that they also contribute to the national economy through environmentally friendly projects, stating:
“In 2025, we generated 73 million 854 thousand kilowatt-hours of electricity from methane gas produced during the waste processing and sludge formation stages at our Konya Solid Waste Sanitary Landfill Site, as well as the Aslım, Ereğli, Cihanbeyli, and Akşehir Solid Waste Sanitary Landfill Sites, and through the wastewater treatment processes carried out by KOSKİ General Directorate. To date, the total amount of electricity we have generated from methane gas has reached 938 million 998 thousand kilowatt-hours. We will continue to decisively implement sustainable, environment-centered projects in order to leave a cleaner, more livable, and stronger Konya for future generations.”
Konya Metropolitan Municipality has also established solid waste transfer stations in Selçuklu, Altınekin, Kulu, Cihanbeyli, Sarayönü, Çeltik, and Ilgın.
