Located in Central Anatolia, Lake Tuz plays a vital role in Turkey’s salt production, meeting about 60% of the country’s total demand. With vast salt reserves estimated at around 250 million tons, the lake stands as one of the most important natural resources in the region.
Each year, as water levels recede, salt begins to form naturally on the surface of the lake. In designated production areas, this salt is collected using specialized machinery, transferred to trucks, and transported to processing facilities. From there, it is either refined for domestic use or prepared for export.
Annually, around 1.5 million tons of raw salt are produced at Lake Tuz. A large portion of this is exported to approximately 60 countries, while the rest is used across various sectors such as food, industry, and chemistry.
With its rich mineral content and large-scale production capacity, Lake Tuz continues to serve as a key resource in both the national economy and international trade.
