Konya Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Uğur İbrahim Altay stated that 73 million 854 thousand kilowatt-hours of electricity were generated in 2025 at six methane gas-based electricity generation facilities operating under the Metropolitan Municipality; the total amount of electricity produced from these facilities to date has reached 938 million 998 thousand kilowatt-hours.
Konya Metropolitan Municipality continues to contribute to a sustainable environment by offering solutions to energy needs through environmentally friendly projects.
Mayor Uğur İbrahim Altay said that with the "Konya Model Municipality" approach, they are working meticulously to respond not only to the needs of today but also to those of the future.
Emphasizing that they act with the Zero Waste target in waste management and attach great importance to energy recovery projects, Mayor Altay said, "Within the scope of our recycling efforts, in 2025 we collected 8 thousand kilograms of waste batteries and 7 thousand litters of waste oil."
Highlighting that they also contribute to the national economy through environmentally friendly projects, Mayor Altay said, "In 2025, at our Konya Solid Waste Regular Storage Site and at the Aslım, Ereğli, Cihanbeyli and Akşehir Solid Waste Regular Storage Sites, as well as through methane gas generated during the formation of sludge obtained from wastewater treatment by our KOSKİ General Directorate, we produced 73 million 854 thousand kilowatt-hours of electricity. The total amount of electricity we have generated from methane gas to date has reached 938 million 998 thousand kilowatt-hours. We will continue to decisively implement sustainable projects centered on the environment in order to leave a cleaner, more livable and stronger Konya to future generations."
Konya Metropolitan Municipality has also established solid waste transfer stations in Selçuklu, Altınekin, Kulu, Cihanbeyli, Sarayönü, Çeltik and Ilgın.
Konya Metropolitan Mayor Uğur İbrahim Altay stated that the Advanced Biological Wastewater Treatment Plants in Ilgın, Çumra, Doğanhisar, Derebucak and Taşkent were completed and put into service in 2025, adding: "In 2025, 99 million 839 thousand 191 cubic meters of water were treated at our wastewater treatment plants in Konya and reintroduced for reuse. In addition, 4 million 476 thousand 286 kilowatt-hours of electrical energy were generated from waste sludge."
Emphasizing that KOSKİ has constructed a total of 14 wastewater treatment plants across Konya since 2018, Mayor Altay said, "With the completion of the latest investments, the total number of wastewater treatment plants across the province has reached 49."
"In 2025, a total of 99 million 839 thousand 191 cubic meters of wastewater were treated at our facilities in Konya and reintroduced for reuse. Additionally, 4 million 476 thousand 286 kilowatt-hours of electrical energy were produced from waste sludge. We will continue our environmental investments in areas where needed."
