Türkiye’s First MS Life Center Opens at Selçuk University

Türkiye’s first MS Life Center, established within the Faculty of Medicine at Selçuk University, is introducing a comprehensive approach to the treatment and rehabilitation of people living with multiple sclerosis (MS).

Bringing together a wide range of services—including robot-assisted rehabilitation, virtual reality applications, neurofeedback therapy, and psychological counseling—the center aims to help patients participate more actively and confidently in daily life.

Opened after nearly six years of preparation, the center goes beyond traditional physical rehabilitation. It offers a comprehensive care model designed to improve patients’ independent living skills, encourage greater social participation, and enhance their overall quality of life.

At the center, patients can use virtual reality headsets to practice driving in a safe simulated environment while also relearning essential daily living skills such as preparing meals and operating washing machines and dishwashers. Individuals experiencing hand muscle weakness receive training with specialized assistive devices to support everyday activities. Patients with walking difficulties benefit from robot-assisted rehabilitation systems, while those with balance and coordination challenges are supported through virtual reality-based therapies.

The center also provides specialized rehabilitation programs for urinary incontinence and pelvic floor disorders, which are common among people living with MS.

In addition to physical rehabilitation, the center addresses the often invisible effects of MS, including chronic fatigue, attention and memory difficulties, depression, and anxiety. Personalized treatment plans are developed through neurofeedback therapy, psychological counseling, and nutritional support provided by dietitians.

As the first facility of its kind in Türkiye, the MS Life Center brings together neurology, physical therapy and rehabilitation, psychology, nutrition services, robotic rehabilitation, virtual reality applications, neurofeedback, and bladder rehabilitation under one roof, with the goal of improving the quality of life for people living with MS.
