Wooden Hypostyle Mosques of Anatolia from the Middle Ages
have been added to the UNESCO World Heritage List. The number of Turkey's sites
on the World Heritage List has now reached 21.

Riyadh, the capital of Saudi Arabia, the decision was made to declare Konya
Beyşehir Eşrefoğlu Mosque, Eskişehir Sivrihisar Grand Mosque, Kastamonu Kasaba
Village Mahmut Bey Mosque, Ankara Ahi Şerefeddin Mosque, and
Afyonkarahisar Grand Mosque as World Heritage sites. With this, Turkey has
added its 21st cultural heritage to the UNESCO World Heritage List.
Culture and Tourism Minister Mehmet Nuri Ersoy announced the
decision of the World Heritage Committee through a message shared on his social
media account. In his message, Ersoy said, “Another piece of good news! For the
first time, we have serially registered our cultural assets on the UNESCO World
Heritage List. After Gordion, Anatolia's wooden columned and beamed mosques, dating
from the Middle Ages to the present, are now World Heritage sites. With this,
we have increased the number of cultural assets on the list to 21.
Congratulations.”
