Selçuklu Municipality, which continues to carry out exemplary projects as the local government with the highest number of libraries in Türkiye, is adding new investments to its strong support for education. In this context, through the protocol signed with the Selçuklu District Directorate of National Education to facilitate students’ access to information, 10 more new libraries will be brought to schools.
The protocol signing ceremony, held in the Selçuklu Municipality Council Hall, was attended by Selçuklu Mayor Ahmet Pekyatırmacı and Selçuklu District Director of National Education Sami Sağdıç.
Stating that they continue to set an example for both Konya and Türkiye with their investments in education, Selçuklu Mayor Ahmet Pekyatırmacı stated that “We always maintain the strongest cooperation with our District Directorate of National Education in the field of education. Through SEDEP SETAP programs, activities carried out within schools, and the physical investments we have made in our schools, there will be no school left untouched. Today, with the libraries we will build in 10 more schools, we will increase the number of libraries in Selçuklu to 119. Currently, we have 100 school libraries, our New Generation City Library, our children’s library, and 9 public libraries. When we increase the number of libraries in our schools, not only do our students benefit from them in the most efficient way, but in suitable schools, our citizens and residents also have the opportunity to use our libraries. In this respect, I believe that increasing the number of libraries and establishing permanent, high-quality libraries in our schools is an important gain for education.
With this protocol, we will be bringing new libraries to Sultan Mesut Primary School, Fatih Secondary School, Selçuklu Municipality Primary School, Adil Karaağaç Technical High School, Aselsan Konya Technical High School, Şerife Akkanat Primary School, Şehit Musa Esat Kaya Primary School, Nesrin and Ayşegül Kardeşler Primary School, TOKİ Ardıçlı Secondary School, and Selçuklu Municipality Fine Arts High School, which we have recently completed. I would especially like to thank our entire team, our esteemed teachers, school principals, and our SEDEP and SETAP coordinators through our District Director of National Education. The cooperation we have established in the field of education always sets an example, and the projects we have developed in Konya and Selçuklu will continue to serve as a model both in Konya and across Türkiye. I wish this protocol to be beneficial.”
Selçuklu District Director of National Education Sami Sağdıç said that “The investment in libraries is not merely about creating a physical space but also a significant investment in the future. Our students and young people are our future. The better equipped we prepare them for the future, the more we believe they will represent our country and us, as well as the heritage we have inherited from our ancestors, in the best possible way. Libraries are dynamic spaces that develop reading culture among our students and guide them toward knowledge and research. In fact, the accumulation within society transforms into intellectual capital there. In this sense, Selçuklu Municipality has provided us with an important service by opening libraries in 100 schools that are used by our students and young people, and even by citizens living around the schools. Today, with this protocol, we will bring libraries to 10 more schools. On behalf of our entire education community, I would like to thank Mayor Ahmet Pekyatırmacı for the valuable support and initiatives taken by our municipality, especially the libraries included in today’s protocol, as well as the out-of school learning environments and other educational and social activities provided to our students and the District Directorate of National Education. In the libraries established in our schools by our municipality alone, there are more than half a million books. This is a clear indication of the significant service we have provided for our students. I underline that inter-institutional cooperation and acting together lead to such meaningful achievements. With this cooperation, Selçuklu wins, Konya wins. I especially see Selçuklu Municipality as a municipality devoted to education. I once again express my gratitude for all the support they have provided and wish our library cooperation protocol to be beneficial.” Following the speeches, the protocol for 10 new school libraries was signed.
