9,400 Saplings Planted in Selçuklu for Climate Action

A sapling planting event was held under a protocol signed between the Ministry of Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change and Selçuklu Municipality, with the aim of creating carbon sink areas and raising environmental awareness.

Mayor Pekyatırmacı stated, “Through the sapling planting event we carried out with a net zero emissions vision, we have created a high-quality carbon sink area in Selçuklu.”

Selçuklu Municipality continues to expand and sustain its efforts in the field of environment and climate change. In this context, as part of the carbon sink area project previously signed with the Ministry of Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change and the General Directorate of Combating Desertification and Erosion, 9,400 saplings were planted with the participation of 650 environmental volunteers.

Through the carbon sink area project, the carbon retention capacity of terrestrial ecosystems will be increased, biodiversity will be supported, and a natural shield against climate change will be created by protecting the soil. With this exemplary environmental initiative, it is aimed to contribute to the sustainable management of the carbon sink area in line with the net zero emissions target, to raise public awareness of carbon sequestration, and to foster cooperation in establishing green spaces where residents can connect with nature.
