Foundation Laid for Stadium–City Hospital Tram Line Phase 2

Foundation Laid for Stadium–City Hospital Tram Line Phase 2

The foundation of the second phase of the Stadium–City Hospital Tram Line, which will be brought to the city through the collaboration of the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure and the Konya Metropolitan Municipality, was laid at a ceremony attended by Minister of Transport and Infrastructure Abdulkadir Uraloğlu.

Speaking at the groundbreaking ceremony held next to the Konya Metropolitan Municipality Stadium, Yalçın Eyigün, Director General of Infrastructure Investments at the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure, recalled that the first phase was initiated last year by the Konya Metropolitan Municipality. He said, “As the Ministry, we will construct the second phase. With these two projects, Konya’s current 27-kilometer rail system will be expanded to 48 kilometers. Under our tender, we will lay a total of 35,000 meters of rail line, consisting of 28,264 meters of main line and 6,700 meters of depot line, based on a single-track plan.”

Emphasizing that Konya is being equipped with a network of rail systems, Mayor Altay said, “We have reached another important milestone in the Stadium–City Hospital Tram Line, which is one of the most concrete examples of this vision. As the Konya Metropolitan Municipality, we are continuing the construction of the first phase using our own resources. This phase, starting from the City Hospital and extending to the New Industrial Zone, will be one of the finest examples of modern, comfortable, and environmentally friendly transportation. The first phase, which will be 11.2 kilometers long and include 11 stations, will cost approximately 1.596 billion lira based on current estimates.”

Mayor Altay stated that they have officially begun work on the second phase of the Stadium–City Hospital Tram Line, which was tendered by the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure. He said, “In this second phase, for which the site has been handed over, there will be 10 kilometers of tramway, 10 stations, 2 new grade-separated intersections, and 2 existing intersections to be upgraded. Additionally, 3 new pedestrian overpasses will be built as part of the project. This phase will begin from Aslım Street and cover the section including TÜMOSAN Junction, Aksaray Junction, Sadık Ahmet Street, and Halil Ürün Street up to the New Stadium area. Our goal is to complete it by 2027, but of course, we will follow the guidance of our Minister on that. Once completed, the Stadium–City Hospital Tram Line will have a total length of 21.2 kilometers, 21 stations, and a total cost of 10.87 billion lira. We aim to transport 60,000 passengers daily from the first year of operation. I hope this project will be beneficial for our city.”

Mayor Altay continued his speech as follows:

“With the addition of KONYARAY, the Stadium–City Hospital Line, and the Barış Street Tram Line, our city will gain a total of 60 more kilometers of rail system. Considering that the total length of the currently operating rail system in Konya is 27 kilometers, this reminds us once again just how significant the work we are undertaking truly is.”

The foundation of the second phase of the Stadium–City Hospital Tram Line, which will be brought to the city by the Konya Metropolitan Municipality, was laid with prayers.
