Konya Honored for Advanced Crisis Communication Practices in International Congress

The exemplary disaster communication efforts of the Konya Metropolitan Municipality Disaster Coordination Center (AKOM) were recognized at the 1st International Emergency Aid and Disaster Management Congress, organized in collaboration with the University of Health Sciences and the Association of Emergency Aid and Disaster Managers.

The paper titled “Digital Communication Strategies in Disasters: Konya AKOM Social Media Practices,” presented by Konya Metropolitan Municipality AKOM at the inaugural congress, was awarded the Jury Special Award by the congress organizing committee.

In the award-winning paper, AKOM’s digital communication activities conducted before, during, and after disasters were examined in detail. Awareness-raising, information-sharing, and guidance efforts carried out through social media accounts were evaluated together with reach, view, and engagement data, and were presented as an exemplary digital disaster communication model for local governments.

It was emphasized that Konya AKOM’s communication strategies, particularly those aimed at ensuring fast, accurate, and reliable information flow during crisis periods, have made a significant contribution to increasing citizens’ level of disaster preparedness and strengthening disaster awareness.

The Jury Special Award, which is among the most prestigious awards of the congress, is given to studies and projects that develop exemplary practices and contribute to the field of disaster management, public administration, and related disciplines.

This meaningful award presented at the international congress was regarded as an important indicator of Konya Metropolitan Municipality’s innovative approach and institutional experience in the fields of disaster management and digital communication.
