Konya Metropolitan Municipality is organizing a series of events in Konya, the “2026 European Cycling Capital,” as part of World Winter Bike to Work Day.
Mayor of Konya Metropolitan Municipality Uğur İbrahim Altay recalled that the second Friday of February each year is celebrated worldwide as “Winter Bike to Work Day.”
Noting that they are organizing programs in Konya to raise awareness about cycling, Mayor Altay said, “Konya holds the distinction of having the longest bicycle lane network in Türkiye, with 680 kilometers. Being awarded the title of 2026 European Cycling Capital is a strong indication of our efforts in this field. Our goal is to promote the use of bicycles among citizens of all age groups and to increase awareness of healthy living. In this regard, we are organizing events for cyclists and especially for our students as part of Winter Bike to Work Day. Throughout the year, we will continue to bring together our fellow citizens with events worthy of the European Cycling Capital title.”
As part of “Winter Bike to Work Day,” the Metropolitan Municipality’s Bicycle Support Vehicle will provide free bicycle repair services at various locations across the city for two days.
After serving cyclists near the Fish Market today, the Bicycle Support Vehicle will also be available in front of Aziziye Mosque on Friday, February 13.
As part of the events, a cycling awareness training session was held today at Kanuni Sultan Süleyman Primary School.
On Friday, February 13, scarf, beanie, and glove sets will be distributed next to Musalla Cemetery.
In an effort to foster cycling awareness among younger generations, Konya Metropolitan Municipality also organizes cycling awareness workshops in kindergartens and primary schools. Additionally, various gifts will be distributed to cyclists along the city’s bicycle lanes tomorrow morning.
