Konya Metropolitan Welcomes Visitors with a Gaza Message

Konya Metropolitan Municipality has transformed the Airbus A300 aircraft, which is permanently located in Türk Yıldızları Park on the Ankara Road and was previously used as a restaurant, into an artwork expressing support for Gaza through graffiti.

Konya Metropolitan Municipality has launched a meaningful project to draw attention to Israel’s actions in Palestine and Gaza and to raise public awareness about the ongoing genocide.

Konya Metropolitan Mayor Uğur İbrahim Altay emphasized that Konya has always stood with Gaza, Palestine, and all oppressed regions around the world.

Mayor Altay stated that they have been voicing strong reactions to Israel’s genocide in Gaza both in Konya and on international platforms, particularly within UCLG and the Union of Turkish World Municipalities. He said, “We express at every opportunity that we stand with our Palestinian brothers and sisters. In this regard, as president of UCLG, I led the establishment of the Cities Voice for Gaza Platform at the World Council last October, enabling municipalities around the world to show their support for Gaza.”

Mayor Altay noted that they created a Gaza-themed artwork on the aircraft in Türk Yıldızları Park on the Ankara Road—an aircraft that has become one of Konya’s landmarks—using graffiti to raise awareness. He added that the plane will now welcome everyone entering Konya with a piece of art dedicated to Gaza.
