UCLG President and Mayor of Konya Metropolitan Municipality, Uğur İbrahim Altay, attended the opening of the Executive Bureau Meeting of the United Cities and Local Governments Middle East and West Asia Section (UCLG-MEWA).
The UCLG-MEWA Executive Bureau Meeting Program began under the theme “Urban Innovation: A Shared Future through Local Solutions,” hosted by the Niğde Municipality, with the participation of local and regional leaders from Türkiye and 13 countries.
Speaking at the program, UCLG President and Mayor of Konya Metropolitan Municipality Uğur İbrahim Altay expressed his pleasure at taking part in the UCLG-MEWA family gathering in Niğde, a cradle of civilizations like Konya. He thanked Niğde Mayor Emrah Özdemir for hosting this meaningful event and UCLG-MEWA Secretary General Mehmet Duman for managing the process with great care.
Mayor Altay noted that they had come together to assess the common challenges faced by the UCLG-MEWA region, strengthen their capacity for solutions, and determine how they, as local governments, can act more effectively together. “UCLG-MEWA is more than a regional organization; it is a strong platform for cooperation that brings together cities with diverse political, economic, and social conditions around a common ground for solutions. This diversity is our core strength, making MEWA more resilient, more inclusive, and more effective,” he said.
