Rumi Commemoration Week: Honoring a Timeless Legacy

Rumi Commemoration Week: Honoring a Timeless Legacy

The period between 7 and 17 December is observed as Rumi Commemoration Week, a significant time dedicated to remembering the profound wisdom and universal message of Mevlana Jalaluddin Rumi. Throughout these ten days, visitors gather in Konya to experience the spiritual atmosphere shaped by Rumi’s teachings on love, unity, and compassion.

As the anniversary of his passing, known as Şeb-i Arûs or the “Night of Union,” approaches, the city becomes a center of cultural and spiritual activity. The Mevlana Cultural Center, museums, and historic venues welcome thousands of guests who participate in sema ceremonies, exhibitions, and thematic programs reflecting Rumi’s enduring philosophy.

Rumi Commemoration Week is more than a remembrance; it is an invitation to reconnect with values that transcend time. Rumi’s call to openness, forgiveness, and human connection continues to resonate deeply in today’s world. His message—rooted in sincerity and an embrace of all humanity—remains a guiding light for many.

This special week encourages individuals to turn inward, reflect on their own journeys, and once again hear Rumi’s timeless invitation: “Come, come, whoever you are.”
