Konya to Host First-Ever Granfondo Road Cycling Race

Konya Metropolitan Municipality continues to host major cycling events befitting the city’s title as the 2026 European Capital of Cycling.

Konya Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Uğur İbrahim Altay said that Konya, which holds the title of 2026 European Capital of Cycling, has gained international recognition through its pioneering cycling projects and its successful hosting of major cycling events.

Mayor Altay noted that the Granfondo Road Cycling Race, which will be held in Konya for the first time, is an important part of this vision. “With its strong cycling infrastructure, Türkiye’s longest cycling network stretching 680 kilometers, international-standard sports facilities, and a bicycle-friendly urban approach, Konya ranks among the world’s leading cycling cities. The title of 2026 European Capital of Cycling is a significant reflection of our city’s commitment to and experience in this field,” he said.

The Granfondo Road Cycling Race will begin at 08:00 on Sunday, June 28, from Meram Vineyards. Participants will have the opportunity to explore Konya’s unique landscape while competing on either the short or long course.

The event will feature two routes: a short course covering 62.61 kilometers with 439 meters of elevation gain, and a long course spanning 94.9 kilometers with 1,337 meters of elevation gain.

Bringing together cyclists from across Türkiye and abroad, the event will serve not only as a sporting competition but also as an important platform for promoting Konya’s historical, cultural, and natural attractions.
