Due to the Eid al-Adha holiday, the number of butterflies in the Konya Tropical Butterfly Garden has been increased, allowing visitors to see the Monarch butterflies, which stand out among the various butterfly species with many of their characteristics.
Monarch butterflies, which start migrating from the northern regions of the United States along the Canadian border, cover a total distance of 4,800 kilometers, each traveling 1,600 kilometers, across three generations.
The 4th generation of Monarch butterflies, which are the continuation of the three generations that complete their migration route by traveling to the southern United States up to the Mexican border, emerge from their chrysalises here.
The butterfly, called the "super generation" because it travels the entire route completed by its predecessors on its own, covers the total distance of 4,800 kilometers by itself and returns to the place where its ancestors started, at the US-Canada border.
Head Biologist of the Tropical Butterfly Garden, Turgut Tuş, reminded that the garden was established with a special system that allows tropical species to be seen in every season throughout the year due to its climate characteristics independent of its surroundings.
Tuş said, "Our guests visiting the Konya Tropical Butterfly Garden will be able to see the Monarch butterflies. The garden provides a suitable environment for these creatures with its 28-degree temperature and 80% humidity levels. Our visitors will be able to observe the butterflies with ease. I recommend that they pay close attention to the flowers when they visit because Monarch butterflies feed on nectar. They are a very striking species with their orange color and black stripes."
