The Taşkent district of Konya is home to the Ağıl Ardıç, a remarkable natural monument known as the oldest tree in Turkey.
This ancient tree is situated within the historical borders of Balcılar Village. Rising majestically on the bare slopes of an expansive area, the Ağıl Ardıç stands alone like a proud sentinel of the forest.
Designated as a natural monument in 2002 by the Ministry of Environment and Urbanization through a Cabinet decision, the Ağıl Ardıç is surrounded by a protective fence. A sign in front of the tree indicates that it belongs to the Juniperus Foetidissima species and was registered on October 10, 2002, when it was already 2,000 years old.
In recent years, the Ağıl Ardıç has become a popular destination for both domestic and foreign tourists. As a witness to history dating back to the time of Jesus Christ, the tree is also surrounded by marine fossils from millions of years ago. This natural monument is said to cure various ailments and is believed to bring prosperity and wealth to its visitors, making it a must-see location.
