The migration of flamingos, guests of Salt Lake, Turkey's second largest lake and known as the "flamingo paradise", located within the borders of Aksaray, Ankara and Konya, has begun to warmer regions. The natural beauty, which also attracts photographers, is on the UNESCO World Tentative List of World Heritage.
The guests of Salt Lake, Turkey's second-largest lake and known as the "flamingo paradise," have begun their migration to warmer regions. Fahri Tunç, the President of the Nature, Bird's Eye View, and Ecology Association, stated that this year, over 10,000 flamingo chicks were born in the region, saying, "Our chicks have now taken flight. There are only a few chicks left at Salt Lake. Within the next 10 days, we will also send them on their way. They will fly to the Gediz Delta and around Manyas Lake."
Fahri Tunç, the President of the Nature, Bird's Eye View, and Ecology Association, stated that more than 10,000 flamingo chicks hatched at Salt Lake this year and said the following:
"I have been involved in voluntary nature conservation work in Salt Lake and the Konya basin. I have dedicated myself to protecting flamingos. This year, we had over 10,000 flamingo chicks. We have consistently carried out protection and monitoring activities with the teams from the Nature Conservation and National Parks Branch and the General Directorate for the Protection of Natural Assets to ensure that our chicks grow up healthy. Currently, our chicks have taken flight. There are only a few chicks left at Salt Lake. Within the next 10 days, we will also send them on their way. They will fly to the Gediz Delta and around Manyas Lake. They will start coming back in March 2024."
Tunç, who pointed out that Salt Lake also attracts the attention of photographers, said, "Salt Lake offers a sense of infinity. When you're there, you feel like you're in a different part of the country. Everywhere you look seems boundless. Even the sun rises and sets into infinity. This aspect of the lake is what entices photographers. Every part of Salt Lake is uniquely beautiful in every season. This natural beauty is on the UNESCO World Heritage Tentative List, but we will do our best to have it included in the permanent heritage list."
