Konya Leads Carrot Production, Meets 65% of Turkey's Demand

In Konya, which meets approximately 65% of Turkey's carrot demand, the production network continues to expand every year. By conducting phased harvesting throughout the year, the producers can send fresh products to many countries, and they continue with staggered planting at 15-day intervals.

Approximately 65% of Turkey's carrot demand is met in the Kaşınhanı Neighborhood, which has a population of 6,000 and is affiliated with Meram.

The producers, who enable fresh product shipments to many countries throughout the year through phased harvesting, engage in staggered planting with a 15-day interval.

The carrots, which are grown through staggered planting and carefully maintained for approximately 120 days, begin to be harvested in the first week of July.

Burak Kırkgöz, the President of the Chamber of Agricultural Engineers in the Konya branch, stated that not all carrots in the Konya region are sent to the domestic market. He mentioned that carrot planting has been ongoing for approximately three months, and the production in the Konya region ranges between 350,000 and 450,000 tons depending on the climate and seasons. Currently, they are in a carrot field that was planted about two months ago, with planting continuing a month before that. Due to rainfall this year, there have been some delays in planting. Overall, the current progress with carrots is good.

"We are currently catching up with the production levels of previous years. Of course, with the introduction of the current Farmer Registration System, this year's production quantities will also be determined. Hopefully, we will have a fruitful season for carrots this year as well. Not all carrots from the Konya region are sold in the domestic market; a significant portion is also exported abroad. There are companies in Konya that are actively involved in this export business. Hopefully, it will be a prosperous season, making our farmers happy," he said.

Kırkgöz expressed that there is high demand for carrots produced in Konya from abroad due to their taste and aroma.
