The harvest season is approaching its end both nationwide in
Turkey and in Konya. While the crop yield in cereals is exceeding the average,
Özkan Taşpınar, the Chairman of the UHK Board of Directors, emphasized that the
rainfall during the spring months has significantly influenced this situation.
The grain harvest in Konya, known as Turkey's grain
storehouse, has largely been completed. Across Turkey, producers are continuing
to deliver their crops to the Turkish Grain Board (TMO).
In regions that experienced excessive rainfall at the
beginning of the season, the crop yield in cereals has exceeded the average for
the first time in many years.
Özkan Taşpınar, the Chairman of the National Cereals Council
(UHK) Board of Directors, stated that the harvest season for cereals is coming
to an end, and the wheat and barley yields have met expectations.
Taşpınar emphasized the significant role of the support
provided to farmers in achieving these figures, stating:
"The announcement of cereal prices that meet
expectations both last year and this year has pleased farmers, traders, and
industrialists. Consequently, there was an increase in the cultivated areas
from last year. Alongside the 21.5 million tons of wheat produced, there are
also 8-9 million tons of imported wheat. This resulted in wheat stocks of
around 30 million tons. While 20 million tons of it are used for domestic
consumption, the remaining is processed into flour, biscuits, pasta, bulgur,
halva, or semolina for export."
