The Independence War Martyrdom Museum, located right next to the martyrdom and situated between the Mevlana Museum and the Mevlana Cultural Center, chronicles the War of Independence and the wartime period through models and figures.
The Konya War of Independence Martyrs Memorial was built to honor the soldiers who lost their lives during the Gallipoli Campaign and the War of Independence. It holds particular significance as Konya was one of the regions that suffered the greatest losses. Constructed by the metropolitan municipality, the memorial also houses a museum where visitors can explore the heroic struggles of the past.
The museum provides insight into village life in Konya during the Gallipoli Campaign and the War of Independence, the Kocatepe Front, and the post-war period through detailed miniature models and figures. Equipped with an Automatic Audio Guide System, the museum offers an immersive experience designed to enrich visitors' understanding of this remarkable history.
Along the path leading to the museum, the flags of sixteen historical Turkish states can be seen. The entrance is marked by a magnificent dome, one of the finest surviving examples of Anatolian Seljuk stonemasonry. The entrance gate, designed in the same style but adorned with kündekari woodworking and stone details, opens into a courtyard meticulously decorated by Uzbek artisans. This courtyard features four mosaic paintings depicting key moments from the War of Independence.
Inside, the War of Independence Martyrdom Museum transports visitors back to the war years with oil paintings and an integrated music system, deepening admiration for the sacrifices of the soldiers.
The museum is open on weekdays from 09:00 to 17:30.
