First in Konya: Simultaneous Stem Cell Transplants at Necmettin Erbakan University Hospital

Necmettin Erbakan University Faculty of Medicine Hospital has achieved another first in healthcare delivery by closely following the progress in medicine and technology to meet the rising demands of the citizens.

In the Adult Transplant Unit of Necmettin Erbakan University Medical Faculty Hospital, stem cell transplants from siblings were performed simultaneously on three patients diagnosed with acute leukemia.

The patients, who were discharged after successfully completing the process without any issues, were seen off by Prof. Dr. Şükrü Nail Güner, Dean of Necmettin Erbakan University Medical Faculty; Assoc. Dr. Hasan Küçükkendirci, Chief Physician of Necmettin Erbakan University Medical Faculty Hospital; faculty members from Necmettin Erbakan University Hematology Department, including Prof. Dr. Özcan Çeneli, Assoc. Dr. Atakan Tekinalp, Assoc. Dr. Sinan Demircioğlu, and Assoc. Dr. Mustafa Merter; and the staff of the Adult Transplant Unit at Necmettin Erbakan University Medical Faculty Hospital.

Assoc. Dr. Mustafa Merter, a faculty member in the Department of Internal Medical Sciences at Necmettin Erbakan University Medical Faculty, who is responsible for monitoring the patients, stated that performing allogeneic stem cell transplants simultaneously on three patients diagnosed with acute leukemia is a first for Konya.

Dr. Mustafa Merter said, "Until now, patients had to go out of the city for treatment. From now on, they won't have to look for a hospital outside the city for allogeneic stem cell transplants. With our academic team consisting of one professor and three associate professors, we have a strong team in this field in our country. This is beneficial for our city."

Derya Ceylan, Halime Kaplan, and Zübeyde Çetin, who regained their health after allogeneic stem cell transplants, thanked the doctors and healthcare team of the Adult Transplant Unit at Necmettin Erbakan University Medical Faculty Hospital for their close attention during the treatment process.
