In the district of Beyşehir, there is a deep well called
"karlık" located in the middle of a mosque with a history dating back
7 centuries, which is included in UNESCO's temporary list of world cultural
heritage. It is believed that the wooden structure and pillars inside the
mosque have been preserved until today. This unique feature attracts the
intense interest of visitors, and it is extremely rare to find something similar
in Turkey and around the world.
The historical mosque located in the Içerişehir
neighborhood, along the shores of Lake Beyşehir, is among the most visited
places of worship in Turkey, attracting visitors throughout the year, for 365
days.
Professor Dr. Hüseyin Muşmal, a faculty member at the
Department of History, Faculty of Literature, Selçuk University, stated that
Eşrefoğlu Seyfettin Süleyman Bey Mosque considered the largest wooden-columned
mosque in the world, is located in the district of Beyşehir, known historically
as the "city of lords."
Prof. Dr. Muşmal stated that while it is possible to find
similar features in other historical mosques in Turkey, the "karlık"
well, which is a distinct part of the Eşrefoğlu Mosque, is extremely rare in
Turkey and around the world.
Prof. Dr. Muşmal emphasized that the "karlık" is
located in the center of the mosque. He stated that it is one of the first
areas that visitors encounter when entering the mosque through the main
entrance or the side entrances with crown doors.
