Historic Mosque Reopens in Konya

The Ecevitzade Kadı Mehmed Efendi Mosque, located in the Kurucuova Neighborhood of Beyşehir and restored by the Konya Metropolitan Municipality, has been officially reopened.

Rüştü Ecevit, the second-generation descendant of Ecevitzade Kadı Mehmed Efendi who attended the opening, expressed his gratitude and thanked AK Party Konya MP Tahir Akyürek and Konya Metropolitan Mayor Uğur İbrahim Altay for their significant efforts in the restoration work.

Konya Metropolitan Mayor Uğur İbrahim Altay also thanked AK Party Konya MP Tahir Akyürek, who previously served as the mayor of Konya, for his contributions, saying: “Our President Tahir made a very important start here; we only added the final touch. I would like to once again thank our former Metropolitan Mayor and current MP Tahir Akyürek for his efforts both in the restoration of this mosque and in all the projects carried out in our region.”

Emphasizing that the Metropolitan Municipality is making great efforts across all districts, he shared the following remarks:

“With the Metropolitan Municipality Law, these towns also became part of our service area. This gave us the opportunity to carry out such meaningful projects. Not only in Kurucuova, but in all towns and districts of Konya, we are working with dedication and determination as the Metropolitan Municipality. We are pursuing efforts to improve social life, increase the income of our residents, and restore cultural heritage. One of the most beautiful examples of this is perhaps the Ecevitzade Kadı Mehmed Efendi Mosque, which we have inaugurated today. I had seen its photos before, but up close it is even more impressive. We were blessed with the chance to fully restore and reopen this structure, a remarkable architectural monument recorded in our history. No words can express how proud and happy we are. I would also like to express my sincere thanks to the Ecevit family for preserving their cultural heritage and for their efforts during the restoration and in organizing today’s opening ceremony. Reviving this monument, which dates back to 1914, is truly valuable for all of us. A significant restoration was carried out—it was almost completely renewed. I extend my thanks to our Provincial Mufti and the entire religious community. I also thank Adil Bayındır, the Mayor of Beyşehir with whom we have collaborated on all projects here, our deputy mayor, our President Kahraman, and Karatay Mayor Hasan Kılca for not leaving us alone today. May it be auspicious and bring blessings.”
