İplikçi Mosque Stands as a Historic Landmark in Konya

İplikçi Mosque, also known by some as the Ebulfazl Masjid, is located just east of Konya’s legendary Alaeddin Hill and dates back to the 13th century.

The mosque, which was originally situated on a smaller plot of land, was expanded over time to reach its present form. Although the building does not have an inscription indicating its construction date, various historical sources show that Mevlana Jalal al-Din Rumi once delivered sermons here.

Finally, the mosque was restored in 1945 by the Directorate of Museums. It served for a time as the Classical Works Section of the Konya Museum before being converted back into a mosque. Over the years, road and pavement works left the structure below street level, and as a result, the minaret base and façade walls were restored and expanded.

The mosque’s 19th-century Baroque-style mihrab and the remains of its earlier Seljuk-style mihrab are among the features that make this structure unique. As in many Seljuk monuments, the tiles found in this mosque also stand out as a significant architectural detail and a rich element of craftsmanship that draws visitors’ attention. With all these examples of fine workmanship, the mosque stands out as an important and remarkable example among the Seljuk-era monuments in Konya.
