The mosque is on Tevfikiye Street in the center of Konya. Its original name is Ihyaiyye, and since it is located around one of the doors of the old Konya Castle, it is called Kapu Mosque.
The mosque was built for the first time in 1658 by Pir Hüseyin Çelebi, who was one of the Sheikhs of the Mevlevi Lodge. This mosque, which was destroyed after a while, was renovated by Konya Mufti Esenlilerlizade Seyyid Abdurrahman in 1811, but a fire in 1867 destroyed the mosque and the foundation shops in the vicinity.
The inscription mentioning this new construction dated 1285 H. (1868 M) is located on the portal. The Kapu Mosque is the largest of the Ottoman-era mosques in Konya. In the north, there is a high narthex, which is supported by 10 marble columns, and a low-arched gateway. It also has a gate in the east and west directions. The mosque, which was built of cut stones, is covered with an exterior roof and eight interior domes.
Kapu Mosque is one of the important historical and cultural structures of Konya. The mosque, located in the center of the city, hosts thousands of visitors every year.
