Students Explore History at Lystra Excavations

The excavations at the ancient city of Lystra, launched through the initiatives of Meram Municipality, hosted an important educational project.

Students who participated in the Archaeology Summer Camp at the ancient city, which holds a special place not only in Anatolian but also in world and Christian history, had an unforgettable experience and shared it with their friends and teachers through an exhibition they organized.

High school students received training in both archaeology and technology-based workshops over the course of five days.

During the camp, students received training in archaeology-based field and excavation work, 3D modeling and printing applications, GPS mapping, anthropology and mosaic workshops, and AI-supported education. Through hands-on activities at the excavation site, they had the opportunity to explore and learn about the historical heritage on location.

The students who accompanied the excavations and received archaeology training on site expressed their excitement with the following words: “Knowing history and learning how life used to be on the land we live on excites us greatly. Seeing in person what we learned in lessons is a very different experience. Through hands-on training, we combined theory with practice. Seeing the ancient rooms, churches, and tomb structures on site strengthened our connection with history.”
