“Our City Library Will Be One of Türkiye’s Most Distinguished Cultural Buildings”

Konya Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Uğur İbrahim Altay inspected the ongoing construction of the Konya City Library, which is being built on the site of the former municipal building.

Emphasizing that they are working intensively to deliver another major investment that will strengthen Konya’s educational, cultural, and scientific infrastructure, Mayor Uğur İbrahim Altay said:

“Our City Library will be much more than a building that houses books. It will be a vibrant cultural center where students, researchers, young people, and all our citizens can learn, create, collaborate, and thrive. We are bringing to Konya a landmark project that is aesthetically distinctive, highly functional, and environmentally responsible. As part of the United Nations’ Zero Carbon Buildings Project, this facility will be among Türkiye’s first zero-carbon buildings. One of the most valuable legacies we can leave for future generations is an understanding of urban development that respects the environment and prioritizes sustainability.”

Mayor Uğur İbrahim Altay noted that construction is progressing in line with the planned schedule and has reached approximately 75 percent completion.

“Once completed, the Konya City Library will become one of Türkiye’s most distinguished cultural landmarks, standing out for its architecture, environmentally conscious design, and extensive range of facilities. We are eager to complete the project as soon as possible and make it available to our young people and all our citizens,” he said.

Traditional Architecture Meets Modern Design

With a total construction area exceeding 13,000 square meters, the City Library is being developed as a modern complex featuring book collections, reading halls, study areas, individual reading rooms, and social spaces.

Designed around the preservation of existing trees, the project is being built according to a unique concept that combines traditional architectural elements with contemporary design principles.
