Beşgöz Recreation Area in Konya

Beşgöz Recreation Area in Konya

Located 15 km from Çeltik district of Konya, the Beşgöz Recreation Area is home to a wide range of karst formations that attract both local and international visitors.

Set around the green Beşgöz Plain, which stands out like an oasis in the surrounding landscape, the region features striking natural formations shaped by wind erosion, as well as a number of caves carved by human hands.

These caves, large enough to accommodate daily living, include interconnected rooms and window openings designed to provide visibility of the surrounding area. Some of them, built in two-storey structures, also contain niches used for daily needs, along with carvings and inscriptions on the walls.

Evidence suggests that many of these caves date back to the Early Christian period or were intensively used during that time, although some areas have suffered damage in more recent years. The walls also show signs of unauthorized digging, as well as carved names and figures. Nearby, there are historical remains believed to have served as churches and burial sites along the edge of the valley.
