Nasri Halil Salim Abu Ceyş, the Ambassador of Palestine to Ankara, visited Konya and met with Uğur İbrahim Altay, who also serves as President of the Union of Municipalities of the World.
The meeting, held at the Taş Bina of the Konya Metropolitan Municipality, began with Mayor Altay expressing his satisfaction in hosting Ambassador Abu Ceyş in Konya.
Mayor Altay stated that Konya is one of the Turkish cities that has shown strong support for Palestine and Gaza. He noted that the city continues to raise awareness of the humanitarian situation in Gaza at international platforms and works in coordination with relevant institutions to support municipalities in Palestine. He also underlined cooperation efforts within the Union of Turkish World Municipalities and with partners such as the Palestine Municipalities Union, the Mayor of Hebron, and the President of UCLG-MEWA. Mayor Altay also mentioned that families from Gaza are currently being hosted in Konya and that efforts continue to ensure their well-being.
Ambassador Abu Ceyş expressed his gratitude for the warm welcome in Konya, describing the city as having a significant historical and cultural legacy. He noted that many Palestinians hope to visit Konya and said that the strong display of solidarity and support for Palestine in the city is deeply appreciated.
He also remarked that being in the mayor’s office felt like being among friends in Palestine, highlighting the emotional and symbolic connection he experienced during the visit.
The meeting concluded in a warm and friendly atmosphere, focusing on the strong friendship between Türkiye and Palestine, shared humanitarian values, and opportunities for future cooperation.
