Selçuk University and Al Neelain University, one of Sudan’s longstanding higher education institutions, have signed a cooperation agreement covering education, research, and academic exchange. The protocol aims to increase student and academic mobility, develop joint scientific projects, and strengthen collaboration, particularly in applied education fields.
The signing ceremony was held at the Selçuk University Rectorate and attended by Selçuk University Rector Prof. Dr. Hüseyin Yılmaz and Al Neelain University Rector Prof. Dr. Alhadi Adam Mohamed Ibrahim, who signed the agreement on behalf of their institutions. A delegation from Al Neelain University, including faculty deans, academic administrators, and public relations representatives, also took part in the ceremony.
Under the agreement, the two universities plan to implement student and academic exchange programs, conduct joint research projects, expand cooperation in undergraduate and graduate education, and collaborate in fields such as veterinary medicine, agriculture, and technology.
Prof. Dr. Hüseyin Yılmaz noted that Selçuk University has a strong educational infrastructure with nearly 61,000 students, 24 faculties, 22 vocational schools, and close to 3,000 academic staff. Emphasizing the importance the university places on internationalization, he said, “What matters most to us is increasing student and academic mobility that strengthens cooperation between countries. Signing agreements is easy; the real challenge is putting them into practice. As Selçuk University, we are committed to fulfilling our responsibilities not only on paper but also through concrete action.”
Al Neelain University Rector Prof. Dr. Alhadi Adam Mohamed Ibrahim stated that following the war in Sudan, the university had taken significant steps to ensure the uninterrupted continuation of its educational activities. Explaining that efforts are ongoing to rebuild the institution, he said, “While continuing education online, we established 18 examination centers both inside and outside Sudan. The main purpose of our visit to Türkiye is to benefit from Selçuk University’s experience during our reconstruction process, conduct joint academic studies, and enhance cooperation, particularly in laboratory facilities, short-term internships, and student and academic exchange programs.”
Following the speeches, Prof. Dr. Hüseyin Yılmaz and Prof. Dr. Alhadi Adam Mohamed Ibrahim formally signed the cooperation agreement.
After the ceremony, Prof. Dr. Alhadi Adam Mohamed Ibrahim and the accompanying delegation visited Selçuk University’s Advanced Technology Research and Application Center, Solar Power Plant, and Faculty of Letters, where they received information about ongoing projects and activities.
