Molasses and Bulgur Tradition in Meram

Molasses and Bulgur Tradition in Meram

The fourth edition of the “Molasses and Bulgur Cooking Event,” traditionally organized by Meram Municipality, was held at Meram Vineyard.

The event, which drew great interest from both the people of Konya and protocol members, welcomed guests who joined the grape harvest and tasted the foaming molasses and bulgur simmering in large cauldrons.

The program, which revived a culture dating back thousands of years, also offered colorful scenes.

Speaking at the program, host Meram Mayor Mustafa Kavuş highlighted the importance of keeping cultural heritage alive and spoke about the efforts of Meram Municipality in this regard. He emphasized that the event plays an important role in passing down the culture of Konya and Meram to future generations, stating:

“I would like to thank all my fellow citizens who contributed to making this program a tradition. Today, we are not just boiling molasses and bulgur; in fact, we are keeping alive a culture, a way of life. As we try to showcase at the Meram City and Life Culture Museum, culture is not only about written or visual materials; it is the lifestyle, traditions, and memories of the city. With the monumental trees, fruit orchards, squirrels, old stone houses, and shared tables here in this vineyard, we are carrying this culture into the future. This event has been one of the finest examples of that. We will continue to sustain this tradition by expanding and developing it.”

The event concluded with servings of molasses, bulgur, and corn prepared in the cauldrons for the guests.
